Norilsk, Obninsk, Sarov and Dimitrovgrad became pilot cities to develop support mechanisms for tourism and hospitality

Pilot cities have been identified for the development and testing of mechanisms to support tourism development and hospitality in areas with high scientific and technological potential (HSTP).

In May, at the initiative of the Committee for the Development of Sustainable Tourism of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RST) and the State Corporation "Rosatom" a working group on the issues of tourism industry and hospitality of cities with HSTP was established. Its composition included representatives of Rosatom, Roscosmos, Tourism.RF, the Center for Strategic Development, the Research Institute of Labor of the Ministry of Labor of Russia, authorities, scientific and expert community.

Pilot cities were selected as part of the first phase of the working group. It was announced at the International Tourism Forum "Let’s travel!". Representatives of 11 municipalities joined in the formation of applications. According to the results of the assessment, pilots were Norilsk, Obninsk, Sarov and Dimitrovgrad.

The development of cities that are strategically important for the country is now a public policy priority. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly pointed out the need to create conditions for the integrated development of such areas, improving the quality of urban environment, attracting investment and specialists.

At the same time, cities with high scientific and technological potential have their own specificity: they are formed around scientific centers, high-tech industries and enterprises that need skilled personnel, a modern urban environment and new points of economic growth. One of the instruments of integrated development of such territories is tourism and hospitality industry - from the creation of modern infrastructure and implementation of investment projects to the development of territorial brand and the attraction of specialists.

The key task of the working group is to analyse existing development mechanisms for strategically important areas and to identify those that are applicable to cities with high scientific and technological potential, taking into account their specificities.

In the next step, the working group will work with the pilot cities to analyze existing barriers and opportunities for development through tourism and hospitality. Specific attention will be devoted to the development of criteria for assessing the potential of such areas, the formulation of a package of proposals for establishing and adjusting support measures, and the preparation of a roadmap for implementing recommendations.
