The flow of tourists between Russia and China in 2026 will exceed 4 million trips - Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation

The reciprocal tourist flow between Russia and China in 2026 is expected to increase by 60% compared to the previous year and will amount to 4-4.5 million trips. This was reported in an interview with TASS at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) by Nikita Kondratiev, director of the department of multilateral economic cooperation and special projects of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

«If you look at the first three to four months [of 2026], we have a total increase of 60%. Some 25% is an increase in Chinese travel to Russia, and ours - about 60%. We hope that this dynamic will continue. According to the year’s results, if in absolute figures, we calculate that there will be a reciprocal tourist flow with China 4 - 4.5 million trips», he said.

The head of department noted that, as a result of the summer season, the tourist flow from China to Russia will grow by about 40-45% year on year. According to him, the number of flights between countries is growing.

«If we take the number of flights carried out at the end of 2025 and now - that is already plus 30-40 flights for these three-four months. It is clear that the growing number of tourists is being provided, including by the growth of aviation. And, accordingly, new cities are being added. Siberia is now well connected, the Far East with China, not to mention Moscow and St. Petersburg. And here, our air carriers are increasing their number of flights, as well as the Chinese ones», - said Kondratyev.

He also emphasized that, with sales to the Middle East halted, many Russians had shifted their focus to China. The Chinese offer a very affordable tourist product, with a good level of service. Therefore, this in principle constitutes competition, including both Thailand and Turkey, where, on the contrary, the price is very much growing, and Egypt , - added the head of the department.
